Mike Pleyte has spent nearly 30 years in the greater Lansing-area. He was born at Sparrow Hospital, graduated from Holt High School and earned a BA from Michigan State University. He and his wife, Ashley, moved to Lansing Township in 2017 after purchasing their first home.
Mike started a small business while attending Michigan State University and has operated it over the last 7+ years. Prior to enrolling at MSU, Mike served in the US Army Reserves for 8 years including a 12-month deployment to Iraq. He has also worked on several political campaigns including John Kerry, Hillary Clinton and most recently Elissa Slotkin for Congress.
Mike’s passion is for elections, democratic reforms and open government. He worked in the Lansing City Clerk’s office during the run up to the March 2020 Presidential Primary and learned a great deal about successful administration of elections and best practices to increase voter participation and ease access to the ballot box. Ashley is a proud UAW member and Mike is a strong union supporter.
Mike is an avid fisherman, kayaker and camper. Ashley and Mike enjoy summer weekends at one of the many incredible state parks Michigan has to offer. They share their house with two dogs and a cat. They can often be found in the yard, chasing the dogs.
